FAQS

Certificate of Eligibility: After the Veterans Administration receives your application and necessary documentation, the claim will be processed to determine eligibility. Once a person has been determined eligible they will receive notification from the VA. This notification is called a Certificate of Eligibility. This certificate will indicate type of benefits the person is eligible for as well as number of months of eligibility and date that benefits will expire. Note that it may take the VA Regional Office up to 12 weeks to process an initial application!

Enrollment Certification: Once eligibility has been established with the VA and registration for classes complete, the student will need to visit the school's veterans benefits office so that they can check your registration and certify enrollment to the VA for processing and payment. The certification is done on-line with the VA, but actual processing once the certification reaches the VA can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks before payment is made, depending on the regional processing center's workload. Benefit payments are made one month in arrears and usually at the beginning of the month; i.e. payment for March will be received in April and so forth.

Verification: Chapter 30 & 1606 Students receiving Chapter 30 and 1606 benefits will no longer receive a verification form in the mail at the beginning of the semester/course from the regional VA office. The student will need to verify and inform us to make any necessary corrections that my affect the enrollment status. Call 1-888-442-4551 (888-GI-BILL-1), or the Verification Line if it has been at least 30 days since your enrollment certification, 1-877-823-2378 (if your enrollment has not changed).

Satisfactory Academic Progress: Students receiving veteran educational benefits are required to maintain satisfactory academic progress according to standards approved by the Texas Workforce Commission and accepted by the VA. Title 38, United States Code, Sections 1674 and 1724 require education assistance to students eligible for veteran educational benefits to be discontinued if the student ceases to make satisfactory progress toward their educational objective. In the event of unsatisfactory progress the veterans benefits office will discontinue enrollment and inform VA of termination due to unsatisfactory progress as mandated by the State Approving Agency and VA. This may result in a student being overpaid. The VA determines whether or not payment will be terminated and reinstated.
